Privacy Policy

The short version

Neorgon is a collection of free, open-source tools run by one person. There is no advertising, nothing is sold, and nothing follows you between sites to profile you. The one record that spans sites is a list, kept in your own account and shown only to you, of which Neorgon sites you have used while signed in. Most tools need no account at all. The few that ask you to sign in do so because they store something you created and want it back later.

Vitrina lets you publish your shelf when public shelves are open there, which shows part of it to anyone who has or guesses its address. That is described in its own section below.

Who is responsible

Neorgon is operated by Luciano Villarroel. The sites are static pages hosted on GitHub Pages under the neorgon.com domain and its subdomains. Source code for every tool is public at github.com/energon-a-secas, so what a tool does with your data can be read rather than taken on trust.

Analytics, which is the only thing collected from everyone

Two privacy-preserving analytics services run on most sites: GoatCounter and Cloudflare Web Analytics. Both count page views without cookies and without building a profile that follows you between sites. They record a page URL, a referrer, an approximate country, and a browser and platform family.

Neither service is Google Analytics. No Google Analytics, Plausible or Umami tag exists on any Neorgon site, and no advertising or retargeting pixel is installed anywhere. Neither service runs on a public shelf page on Vitrina.

Accounts, on the sites that have them

Sign-in is handled by Clerk, an authentication provider. Clerk stores your email address and, if you create one, a password. If you sign in with Google, it also stores the name and profile picture described below. Neorgon never sees or stores your password.

If you choose Sign in with Google, Neorgon requests exactly three pieces of information from your Google account: openid, your email address (userinfo.email) and your basic profile (userinfo.profile, which is your name and profile picture). These are Google's basic non-sensitive scopes. No Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts or any other Google service is requested or accessible.

That Google information is used for one purpose: to identify you when you return, so the site can show you your own saved work. It is not sold, not shared with anyone, not used for advertising, not used to train any model, and not transferred to third parties except the infrastructure providers listed below that are needed to run the service.

One account works on every Neorgon site that has sign-in, and it remembers which of those sites you have used while signed in: the site's name, and the day you first and last used it. Nothing about what you did there is recorded. The list is stored with your Clerk account so the account menu can show it under Your Neorgon sites. You can read it and clear it from that menu. While you are signed in, a Neorgon site's own code can read it, the same way it can read your name and email; no site uses it to decide what you may do.

What you create

On a site where you sign in, what you make is stored in that site's own database, which is a Convex deployment. Each site has a separate database, so an account on one does not carry your content to another. Examples are the memes you upload, the character sheets you build, the lists you save, and the book shelf you keep on Vitrina.

Content is stored against your account identifier so that the site can show it back to you and stop anyone else from editing it.

Your shelf on Vitrina

Vitrina uses the same Neorgon account as the other sites. Signed out, your shelf is kept in your browser's local storage and is not uploaded anywhere. Signed in, your shelf is kept in Vitrina's own Convex database. Books from a shelf already in your browser, with the details listed below, are copied into your account only when you press a button that does it; nothing is copied on its own.

What Vitrina stores for a signed-in account, all of it keyed by your Clerk user id and never by your email or name:

A profile, once you choose a handle: the handle, whether your shelf is published, the time a moderator suspended it while a suspension stands, and when the profile was created and last changed.

One row per book. For a book from the catalogue, that is the id of its catalogue record. For any other book, it is the details you gave: title, authors, year, pages, publisher, collection, dimensions, and optionally the address of a cover or spine image, which your browser then loads from that site. Any book row can also hold your shelf label, your note, the title as you listed it (shown as "Listed by you as"), the date the book was added, and the time the row was last saved.

The size of your shelf: how many books it holds and how many bytes they take. One shelf holds at most 2000 books and 8 MiB.

Vitrina uses this to show you your shelf wherever you sign in, to keep a shelf within its limits and, if you publish it, to show its public part to others. It is kept until you delete it, your Neorgon account is deleted, or the operator deletes it under the terms, as described below. Private means hidden from other visitors, not from the operator, who can read Vitrina's database to run and moderate it.

Rate limits. To slow down abuse, saving, editing or removing books, trying to claim or change a handle, trying to publish a shelf and asking for deletion each record your account id, the kind of action and the time. A job that runs once a day deletes records older than 31 days, so a record is normally gone within 32 days, and deleting your Vitrina data deletes yours along with the rest.

Suspensions. If a moderator suspends an account, its Clerk user id and the time the suspension began are kept, even after that person deletes their Vitrina data, so that deleting and starting again does not undo the suspension. This record exists to prevent abuse. It is kept until the operator lifts the suspension, which the operator can do at any time: by handle while the account has one, and by account id after its Vitrina data is deleted.

Public shelves on Vitrina

A shelf is private unless you publish it. Publishing is off by default, and needs a handle, the publish switch turned on by you, and your statement that you are 16 or older. Vitrina keeps no separate record of that statement; the only record is that your shelf is published. Publishing also has to be open on Vitrina as a whole. At launch it is closed. While it is closed, nobody can publish, no shelf is shown to anyone but its owner, and a handle can only be reserved. Closing it does not unpublish anything, so a shelf that is still published is shown again when publishing reopens.

A published shelf is shown at https://vitrina.neorgon.com/u/? followed by your handle, and anyone who knows the handle can also ask Vitrina's database for the same public part directly. It shows your handle, and the books from the catalogue with the shelf label you gave each one; the database returns those books ordered by their catalogue record, so the order does not show when you added each one. It never shows your notes, the dates you added books, the title as you listed it, books you added by hand, image addresses you entered, your email, your name, your profile picture or your account id.

Public shelves are not listed in any directory or sitemap, and the page asks search engines not to index them. They are not counted by analytics, though GitHub Pages, which serves the page, and Convex, which holds the shelf, still receive each visit's request. A site you reach by following a link from a public shelf is told at most that you came from vitrina.neorgon.com, not whose shelf it was.

A handle is not a secret, and a guessed handle works the same as a shared link. Anyone signed in who tries to claim a handle that is taken is told so, which shows that the handle is in use or was given up in the last 30 days.

You can change your handle at most 3 times in 30 days. A published shelf stays published at its new address, and links to the old address stop working. When you change your handle or delete your Vitrina data, the old handle is held for 30 days so that nobody else can claim it and receive links meant for you; you cannot claim it back during that time either. During the hold Vitrina keeps only the bare handle and the date the hold ends, linked to no account. After that date anyone can claim it, and the bare handle is deleted from the database within a day, or sooner if someone claims it.

Turning the publish switch off, or deleting your Vitrina data, hides the shelf from anyone who loads it after that. A page someone already has open keeps showing what it loaded. Copies other people made while it was public, such as screenshots or saved pages, are outside Neorgon's control and cannot be recalled.

The operator can hide a public shelf that breaks the terms, delete the Vitrina data behind it, and release a held handle early. A suspended account cannot publish or take a new handle, though its private shelf keeps working. Hiding a shelf does not unpublish it, so if the operator lifts the suspension, a shelf that is still published is shown again. Anyone can report a public shelf with the report control on its page. The report includes the page address, and so the shelf's handle.

Book images on Vitrina

Vitrina shows real cover and spine scans from the catalogue of La Tercera Fundación. Apart from small copies of the books on the demo shelf, your browser loads those images straight from tercerafundacion.net, including when you look at someone else's public shelf. That site therefore receives your IP address, your browser's usual request details, and the fact that the request came from vitrina.neorgon.com. Because each image is its own request, it can also see which books' images a page asked for. It does not receive your account, your handle, your notes or your shelf labels. What it does with those requests is up to that site.

Correction reports

Some sites carry a small beacon for reporting a mistake on the page. If you use it, the report stores the text you wrote, the kind of report you picked, the page it was sent from, the item on that page you reported if the site names one, an optional contact detail if you choose to leave one, and a one-way hash of your IP address used only to slow down abuse. The raw IP address is not stored. On a public shelf page, the page address includes the shelf's handle.

Reports arrive in a private queue, and the text you wrote and your contact detail are never published. When an operator marks a report fixed, the public log carries the site, the page address cut back to its path, the item named if there is one, and a note in the operator's own words, unless the operator leaves that report out. Cutting the address off at the path is what keeps everything after it out of the log: for a report about a public shelf, the log names the shelf page and not the handle in its address, and for a report sent from a one-time link, it names the page and not the link.

Cookies and local storage

One first-party cookie is set: neo_theme, which remembers a colour theme you picked and is shared across neorgon.com subdomains so the choice follows you between tools. It contains a theme name and nothing else. It is not used for tracking.

Signing in sets session cookies from Clerk, which are what keep you signed in. Sessions on the free plan last seven days.

Many tools keep your preferences and drafts in your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device and is not readable by Neorgon. On Vitrina, if you are signed in and press a button that copies your browser shelf into your account, those books and their details are uploaded to Vitrina's database, as described above.

Who else processes data

GitHub Pages hosts the pages. GoatCounter and Cloudflare provide analytics; Cloudflare also provides a content delivery network and stores correction reports. Clerk provides authentication. Convex provides the databases, including Vitrina's. Google receives an authentication request only if you choose to sign in with Google. Each is used for the function named and nothing else. Some pages also load code from public code hosts such as esm.sh and jsDelivr, which then receive your IP address.

La Tercera Fundación is not one of these services. It is a separate site that Vitrina pages load book images from, as described under Book images on Vitrina, and what it does with those requests is up to that site.

Keeping and deleting

Analytics records are aggregate counts and are not tied to you. Account data and the content you create are kept until you delete them, apart from the Vitrina records described below that outlast a deletion.

You can delete your account from the account menu on any site where you signed in, which removes your Clerk identity and the list of sites you used with it. The list alone is cleared from the same menu, under Your Neorgon sites. To have the content stored against that account removed as well, or if a delete control is missing on a particular tool, ask and it will be deleted. Vitrina deletes its own, as described next.

You can have Vitrina's data deleted in two ways. Delete my Vitrina data, in Vitrina, removes your profile, and with it any published shelf, at once. Every book, your shelf totals and your rate-limit records are then deleted in the background, and a final pass runs about five minutes later. While that runs, Vitrina keeps a note of your account id and when the deletion started, so nothing can be saved to the shelf being deleted, and removes it at the end. This does not delete your Neorgon account, which the other Neorgon sites share. A shelf kept in your browser's local storage is separate, and you clear it in your browser.

Deleting your Neorgon account also erases your Vitrina data, normally within a day, through the same steps. Using Delete my Vitrina data first starts the deletion at once. If you have already deleted the account and want to check, ask through the contact route below and give the handle your shelf had: Vitrina stores no email or name, so a handle is what a request can be matched to, and a shelf that never had one cannot be found that way. Either way, your old handle is held as described under Public shelves on Vitrina, and if the account was suspended, the suspension record stays as described under Your shelf on Vitrina.

Revoking Neorgon's access to your Google account at any time is done at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Children

These tools are not directed at children and no account information is knowingly collected from anyone under 13. Publishing a shelf on Vitrina also needs your statement that you are 16 or older.

Changes, and how to reach a human

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes with it. The page's full history is public in the site's Git repository, so what changed and when can be read line by line.
